Four nearby trails perfect for crisp-weather walks, weekend workouts, and scenic fall views.

As the River Valley shifts into cooler weather, it’s the perfect time to lace up and explore some of our region’s most accessible trails.

Whether you’re after a casual afternoon stroll or something a little more adventurous, there’s a hike nearby ready to deliver fresh air, fall color, and a welcome reset for body and mind.

Below are four hand-picked trails that offer scenic beauty and varied difficulty — ideal for walking, jogging, or weekend micro-adventures.

🌅 1) Yellow Rock Trail — Devil’s Den State Park (West Fork)

Distance: ~3 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Why Go:
This bluff-top trail pays off with one of the best viewpoints in the region. The gentle climb to Yellow Rock gives you sweeping views of the Lee Creek Valley — especially stunning with fall foliage. A great half-day outing for families and active walkers.

🌲 2) Torraine Lake Loop — Fort Smith

Distance: ~1.5 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Why Go:
A peaceful paved loop surrounding Torraine Lake makes this a favorite for easy cardio, stroller walks, or warming up after work. Quiet, scenic, and tucked slightly away from main roads, it’s an approachable option for beginners.

🏞 3) Lee Creek Reservoir North Ridge — Van Buren

Distance: 2–3 miles
Difficulty: Easy → Moderate
Why Go:
Enjoy winding wooded trails with periodic overlooks of the water. Great for short hikes or building endurance. Tall trees + open space make it beautiful year-round, but fall is magic here.

🚴 4) Ben Geren Greenway — Fort Smith

Distance: Varies
Difficulty: Easy
Why Go:
Flat, well-maintained, and connected to multiple access points — this one’s ideal for runners, cyclists, and brisk walkers. A great spot to take your workout outdoors without leaving town.
