🚴♀️ Pedal the River Valley — Scenic Trails to Explore This Fall |
From riverside rides to wooded loops, these Fort Smith-area bike paths prove that fitness and fresh air go hand in hand. |
As the weather cools and the leaves start to show their color, there’s no better time to hit the trail on two wheels.
Around Fort Smith and Van Buren, you’ll find bike routes for every level — from casual family paths to rugged forest loops that challenge your endurance and reward you with river views.
Here are a few local favorites worth adding to your fall movement plan:
🚲 Greg Smith River Trail
A six-mile paved path that follows the Arkansas River from downtown Fort Smith toward the National Cemetery area. Smooth, scenic, and mostly flat, it’s ideal for beginners, families, or anyone looking for a relaxed evening ride with a sunset backdrop.
🌳 Ben Geren Regional Park & Trail System
Fort Smith’s largest park offers more than a dozen miles of interconnected trails — a mix of paved sections and off-road loops. You can start with an easy 2-mile spin or extend your route into the rolling terrain behind the golf course. Plenty of parking, restrooms, and picnic spots make it easy to turn your workout into an outing.
🌲 Springhill Park Mountain Bike Trail (Barling)
For riders who like a challenge, this wooded 10-mile loop offers roots, short climbs, and creek crossings. It’s close enough for an afternoon adventure but feels like a forest escape. Bring water and be ready for a workout — it’s a favorite among local mountain-bike groups.
Wherever you ride, remember the basics: check your tires, wear a helmet, and bring lights if you’re out near dusk.
Fall colors won’t last forever — take advantage of the season’s best riding weather and pedal your way to better health.
